Union Announces Saturday Workshop Series

Union College’s Chemical Dependency Certification program will launch a series of Saturday workshops on August 25.

The workshops are for those interested in a career or certification in alcohol and drug abuse counseling, practitioners with an interest in skills related to alcohol and drug treatment, and students working toward degrees such as psychology or social work who wish to understand the effects of drug and alcohol problems on service delivery.

Dr. Joni Caldwell, the chair of Union’s psychology department, is working with Clinton Hammock, UNITE’S treatment director, to make the workshops available. A total of twelve Saturday workshops will be offered throughout the fall and spring, with each focusing on one of the core functions essential for substance abuse counselors. The August 25 session kicks-off the fall series of six workshops.

Continuing education units (CEUs) are available for professional counselors. In addition, those working toward chemical dependency certification may count the workshops as additional hours.

Registration is required and can be completed by calling Dr. Caldwell at 606-546-1225. The cost of each workshop is $25 and includes materials, refreshments, and CEU processing, if applicable. Participants may register for the entire fall series for $100. All workshops are offered free-of-charge to those already enrolled in Union College’s Chemical Dependency Certification program.

The August 25 workshop will take place from 8:30 am until noon in room 3130 of the Sharp Academic Center on Union’s campus.
